The subject of the DFG acquisition of the Shintafer property came up while I was up in Fall River country last weekend. As you recall, this private ranch includes river frontage at the confluence of Tule River and Fall River. The property became available for purchase, and DFG had hoped to acquire the property. It offered an opportunity for stream bank and wetland restoration, and DFG also was considering plans to provide public boat access for a very small number of boats. NCCFFF supported the acquisition with the condition that DFG develop a comprehensive management plan with public input before taking any management action.
Funding for the acquisition of the property on Fall River was approved by the Wildlife Conservation Board, however the acquisition of this property is now in doubt. It appears that political resistance came from some local landowners who opposed the acquisition.
Stay tuned.
