The river was higher than desirable, being at 10,000 cfs, but fishable, even wadable in some areas. There were many boats with guides. Victor Buhrke fished with a guide from a boat and got 9 fish to 25" (estimated at 7 lbs) on the 17th. Your fishmaster fished with his son, Dave, that afternoon, and didn't get anything in the region of Turtle Bay on the west side of the river. On the 17th of April, we fished the west side along the rocky bank at the sewage treatment pond, and Dave caught 6 fish to 16", all on beaded nymphs, mostly #16 olive birds nest. The current is heavy, but try to dead drift fly close to bottom. The fish take it very lightly, so watch your indicator and hit any movement as fish will quickly spit it out. We fished the same area for a couple of hours in the morning of the 18th without success. We stayed at the Valley Inn in Anderson as all the Redding motels were full.
