A New Column: Ask Dr. Lanyard
from: Leafa Fiore
what: Up a creek without a paddle? Got your nickers in a twist? Can't help you with those things, but Dr. Lanyard will help you through your frustrating fishing moments. Starting next month, look for a new article called "Ask Dr. Lanyard". You are invited to pose questions, anonymously if you wish, regarding gear problems. No question is too basic. The PFF membership, a real pool of experts, will supply the solution to your gear problems. The member who provides the solution will be awarded the honorary title of Doctor Lanyard for the month.
who: Send your questions and answers to .
 New Roles For Rodney Chun
role #1: Rodney has extended his involvement in PFF conservation by taking on the job of conservation editor. He's provided three items for this month's conservation section. It's good to have this part of PFF wake from its sleep.
role #2: In preparation for taking the reins of this website, Rodney has editied Tom Kilfoil's two fly tying articles and placed a number of files on the server. After giving Rodney a tour of the website's inner workings, I can assure you that the website is going to be in capable hands. Good luck, Rodney, and thanks for being brave enough to take this job.
 California Heritage Trout Challenge
from: Rocky Ferraro
what: By catching six different forms of California native trout from their historic drainages and photographing these fish you can receive a colorful, personalized certificate featuring the art of renowned fish illustrator Joseph Tomelleri. Your certificate will show six full-color images representing the trout you caught, along with their dates and locations. It is sized to fit in a standard 16 x 20 inch matted frame.

 Membership Survey
what: The PFF Board of Directors wants you to have a say in where the club is going. Take a few minutes to fill out the Members' Survey and let us know what you think about the various activities of the club. This is your opportunity to weigh in on issues such as: what causes we should support, where fishouts should go, what casting practice and fly-fishing workshops should cover, or what items youÍd like to see on the raffle table.

Fill out the form and either mail it to Allen Cary or bring it to the next meeting or workshop. We will have the forms at the workshops and meetings through the April General meeting. Each member who completes a form will be entered into a special raffle to be drawn at the Installation Dinner. You do not have to be present to win, but who would willingly miss the Installation Dinner from "Camp Cook" Les? The forms will be kept anonymous, but if you mail them to Allen, be sure to include your name in order to be properly entered for the drawing.
how: Download the Acrobat .pdf survey.

Stan Konrad Wants Partners For Alaska Do-It-Yourself
when: July or August 2004
the plan: An unguided float trip on an Alaskan river. I have no definite plans as of yet, just in the process of researching. About ten years ago we had some speakers, I believe from a Fresno club, who did it every year and loved it. They just brought their inflatable raft, got a float plane to fly them in and pick them up a week later downriver. Said that it wasn't too costly. Any members interested in such a trip should contact .
 PFF Bone Fish Team
what: The PFF Bone Fish Team is planning another exciting Bahamas adventure. Space is limited and will accomodate a maximum of eight fly fishers.

Large pristine flats provide a unique opportunity to fish unspoiled territory without intervention of maurading fly or bait fishermen. If you are used to sharing your fishing grounds with shoulder to shoulder other fishers then you really don't want to miss this trip.
where: Congo Town, South Andros Island, Bahamas. The home of numerous large bonefish.
when: May 8–16, 2004.

  Fishing Buddies Email List
what: A new club feature. A way for a member to find a companion to go fishing. Maybe it's short notice, maybe it's mid-week, maybe it's for an outing that should be smaller than a full-fledged fishout. (Thanks for the idea, Jim Johnston.)
how: A "Fishing Buddies" link will be added to the password-protected roster page. When you click this link, an email will pop up. The email will be pre-addressed to the entire fishing buddies list. You add whatever details you wish to the body of the email and click Send. Interested parties will contact you by the means you have specified.
join: Opt in by sending an email to which declares your interest in receiving emails from other PFFers seeking a fishing buddy. You may do this now.
quit: Whenever you desire to be removed from the list, you need only click the Fishing Buddies link and state in the email which pops up that you'd like to be removed from the list.
