Casting Classes and Spey-O-Rama

January 2004

Have you been considering learning to Spey cast? If you are interested in this style of casting I am certain that the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club (GGACC) can help you. Starting in February, Mariusz Wroblewski, The GGACC's very own, has agreed to give us Spey casting instruction. Mariusz is one of GGACC's better, if not our best, Spey caster. He, along with his fellow instructors, will begin Spey casting basics and progress to more technical skills. Spey casters, this is a must. Schedule is as follows:

I would like to briefly relate that in the past I have not been closed-minded regarding Spey casting, but rather just regarded Spey casting as possibly an unnecesary casting and fishing technique. Late in 2003 I was fishing for steelhead on the Rogue River in Oregon with my sons and experienced a mind-expanding appreciation for Spey casting while fishing. There were areas where I was severely limited or could not fish using traditional equipment due to limited back casting room. Also, my sons were casting with greater ease and, in a number of instances, casting farther than I was. It seems one must go through these mind-expanding experiences to really comprehend the metamorphosis that takes place in one's thinking. There is indeed a time and a place for everything; let go, give it a try! It rapidly became apparent to me that on large rivers or where the angler has limited back casting room, a greater advantage is granted to the angler using a Spey rod.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the GGACC will be presenting a SPEY-O-RAMA at the GGACC clubhouse and casting pools on April 23, 24, 25. Offered will be:

This is scheduled to be a filmed event with international Spey casting luminaries in attendance. This is a DO NOT MISS extravaganza. Attend both sessions for free.

We are looking for people to house the Spey-O-Rama participants who will be coming from foreign countries. We may not need all the volunteered homes, but have to be prepared. If anyone wished to possibly house a foreign guest, they must call Mariusz Wroblewski at (510) 215-1058.
