| | September Speaker |
| who: |
Ken Hanley |
| what: |
Ken Hanley is the newest inductee into the Northern California FFF
Hall of Fame. Ken is an old friend of PFF and is looking forward to
his visit. He is an author of six fly fishing books and writes and provides
photographs for both national and regional outdoor publications. He
has been places I can only dream of. And he probably got paid for doing
it. Ken will give a talk on Saltwater Stripers. It should be a fun time!! |

Upper Sac Fishout with Nymphing Clinic (This Weekend!) |
| what: |
Join the PFF'ers on the Upper Sac this Saturday (Sept 17th) for a nymphing
clinic taught by local Dunsmuir guide and expert, Ron Hart. The demonstration
class will run from 9 AM to 12 Noon when Ron will cover topics including: stream
entomology, water reading, rigging, casting and releasing fish. After lunch
we will continue fishing the Upper Sac and a group of us will be hiking up to the spectacular
Mossbrae Falls. |
| details: |
More details about gear, accomodations, and the schedule are available
in this handout (pdf file).
The weather has turned colder which means the fish have started feeding
aggressively. There are some big fish in that section of the river,
and they readily fall for nymphs - if you know how. |
| fee: |
There is a $20 tuition fee payable to the Peninsula Fly Fishers. Please give
funds to Rodney to reserve your space. |

| | New Roster System to Start This Month |
| what: |
The web editor will be rolling out a new roster system sometime this month. The
new system will allow PFF members to change their own personal information over the internet
by filling in easy-to-use forms. It will also be more secure than our current static
roster web page.
|
| when: |
A generous group of volunteers have already entered most of the new roster data into
the database. In a week or so, I will have set up the user-permissions so each
member can log-in and edit/check their own entries. When this is ready to go, I will notify
the membership by email.

Dan Blanton's Striperfest and BBQ 2005 |
| what: |
In 1997, the saltwater fly fishing community centered around

and evolved to the current event which features fishing, fundraising and a
grand BBQ in the Delta. The fine folks at the Sugar Barge will
be preparing a mouth-watering buffet including
St. Louis Style Ribs, Cajon Charbroiled Chicken, Tex Smoked Brisket
and all the extras. The funds raised at the event will agin be
given to the the Bay/Delta Conservation Committee of
the Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers. |
| date: |
Saturday, November 5; starts a 4:00 pm at the Sugar Barge Restuarant on Bethel Island. |
| cost: |

Call for Volunteer Section Editors for Website |
| background: |
The website work has grown to be an enormous monthly task and we are
still looking for volunteer editors to maintain the site.
|
| what: |
Before asking the Board to reduce the frequency of publication, I agreed that I would
try dividing the work into smaller pieces and canvass volunteers to act as section editors.
These positions require absolutely no internet or web skills or experience. Rather, we need creative individuals who
will source, organize, edit, and create interesting articles for our site. Each section editor will
handle a particular section (Fishing Tales, Announcements, How-To, Fly Tying, Tackle, Short-Report,
and Conservation). All materials can be prepared and delivered as ordinary text editor files (e.g. MS Word)
and standard graphics files (jpeg, gifs, etc). A large part of the job will be finding and working with other
members who have content to add to the site. For instance, the Short-Report editor will be reponsible
for keeping an ear open during meetings or other events, and following up on members' fishing trips.
Once articles are written or edited, the editors will email the final articles to me (in Ms Word format)
so I can convert them into our standard web-friendly format. So absolutely no coding or special
internet skills are needed -- just an interest in working on content and contributing to an excellent
fly fishing resource.
|
| action: |
If you are interested in taking responsibility for one section (Fishing Tales, How-To, Fly Tying, Tackle, Short-Report,
and Conservation), please contact me by the end of September. Again, the positions do not entail any
web or internet coding except, maybe, sending me emails with articles and pictures.
