Our speakers for May are Ben Byng
and Steve Potter and their presentation is about fly fishing for Black
Bass in the Delta and back waters - our back yard. They will
also discuss hand carved balsa wood poppers and deer hair flies, much
desired by said Bass.
Ben has been fishing since he was a young boy and his grandfather took
him on many journeys from the Great Lakes to the Florida
Keys. His father took him on trips to fish the small streams
and high mountains of Eastern Idaho. Now that he lives near
the California Delta, he has spent hours fishing this 1,200 mile
waterway. Ben helped Andre Puyans with his Fly-Fishing
Seminars in Eastern Idaho at Elk Creek Ranch and worked his way to
becoming Operations Manager. In 2006 he became a fly fishing
instructor for both Wilderness Unlimited and BOW (Becoming an Outdoor
Woman). Ben also ties flies at the International Sportsmen's
Expos and the fly fishing shows on the West Coast.
Steve's father introduced him to fly fishing with a kit purchased
overseas in the 1960s. His wife, Linda, gave him a fly tying
kit about 15 years ago and he has been tying flies ever
since. Steve regularly ties for fly shows in the western US
and the International Sportsmen's Expos. He is a member of
the Tracy Fly Fishers and is a proud member of the Daiichi Pro Team.
This should be an entertaining and instructive presentation and we look
forward to seeing you at the meeting. |
