Two graphite rods were raffled, with top prizes going to John Gross and Mac Macchiaverna. Ray Kidder paid a visit.
Fishouts were to Truckee, Oyster Point, Pyramid, Redondo, the Gold Fields, where things got hot (courtesy of Kn Buscho and his camp stove).
Meetings were moved to Thursdays, a move which predated Thursday night footbal, and the steelhead fishout was moved due to a conflict with the Super Bowl. Mike Pinelli won the 9 for 9 Orvis Shooting Star rod. Casting, tying and rod-building classes continued in earnest. As usual, more rivers were in danger, and Les Junge won the second-ever Decathalon on the basis of his well-presented "burgensis grandis" patterns.
By the end of the year, postage was up to 20 cents, and the installation dinner up to $8.00.
The bulletins got pretty thin here. If you're reading this, Jim Jackson, please send us something for the club archives.
Some highlights were...
The first decathlon at Golden Gate Park.
The new emblem for our decals.
The one hundred member limit lifted so we could expand.
Jim Jackson now spends the summer in Island Park, Idaho, in Henry's Fork, in a house they built in 1987. They leave in October-November to spend the winter in Arizona and return in May.
