I want to thank all the PFFers who showed up to Harry's Hofbrau and gave Jack Dennis such a warm reception. I heard the casting session went well and while Jack's presentation was a little longer than typical, I've heard back from many members how much they appreciated his style. I look forward to reading the survey results and working with the new president in presenting speakers who might pique your interest in other areas of fly fishing.
Are you thinking of joining the board of directors or perhaps even jumping right into an officer position, but don't know anything about the job? The folks on the nominating committee (Allen Cary, Rich Holubek, and now Leafa Fiore) would love to give you all the information you need to make an informed choice. You can also find the job descriptions on our website (thanks Dennis). I want to thank the chairpeople who have already told me that they will be happy to continue in their current positions for another year, but I will miss Dennis Maxwell as bulletin editor. Thanks, Dennis, for all the work you've put into our paper.
With trout season starting soon, I look forward to hearing all your fishing tales and I hope will have a few of my own. I did have a chance to go to Calero Reservoir off of highway 85 to fish for bass and crappie with Anne and Alan Fisher and learned an important lesson. Don't try to fish after working all night because it's hard to catch anything when you've forgotten your reel at home. Luckily, my fishing partner was willing to share his rod and reel with me, and I landed a nice-sized crappie. Ok, he did land a few more than me, but I sure had fun landing that fish on his new Temple Fork rod. Come May, those Kisler bass and bluegills better watch out!
Our speaker for April will be Peter Jon Bauer from the Angler's Edge shop in Gardnerville, Nevada. Peter's been fishing the high Sierras for years and will give us his insights into fishing the lakes and streams of the Sierra. Dinner will be at 6PM at the Woodside Bakery. Get your taxes mailed out earlier in the day so you won't miss the dinner or meeting!
