Time To Thank PFF's Volunteers

PFF president Mandy Anderson

As my year is quickly coming to an end, I want to make sure I thank all the people who helped make our meetings, workshops, fishouts, and dinners something to be proud of. Phil and Homer, our VP's, helped get the hall in shape before the speaker's arrival while Debbie, Jim, and Joan kept us all awake with caffeine and sugar. Barbara took on the not-so-easy job of keeping the library in shape and JC was ever present by the door to meet and greet all our new and returning members and guests. George and Rich offered us old favorites and new devices to spend our money on. Wayne and his team taught us how to properly use our purchases. Mike M., Harold, Dave, and Doug taught us the magic we can make with our own hands and Les J. and his mighty kitchen crew kept us fed with a little magic of their own. And our website run by Dennis K. and his wonderful group of volunteers helped us find new places to fish, new people to fish with, and reminded us why we love to flyfish.

I truly appreciate all the time and effort the directors have put into their jobs. My thanks to Joe and Terry for the last two years of service while Mr. Johnston is pitching in for another two. Rodney not only jumped in to help with the website, but has also become our Conservation Chair and future 2nd VP. Allen ended his time on the board collecting your survey results so future Boards can offer the membership programs, fishouts, and workshops to challenge our skills and promote fly fishing. Mike M. will carry on as the Board's Advisory Director for another year. Meanwhile Leafa has stepped down from the Secretary position, but volunteered for another year as a director. Alan has passed the Treasurer's books to Homer in hopes of spending time with wife Anne saltwater fly fishing in Mexico or Florida. Phil and Mary Lou have moved out of the Bay Area to enjoy the benefits of retirement—fishing! And I can't forget to acknowledge the hard work of Rich H., Leafa, and Allen as the Nominating Committee in getting new people to replace these retirees.

Clubs like the PFF are only as strong as their membership makes them and folks, we have a PROBLEM. Dennis Maxwell got away before I could tell him that we appreciated him volunteering to get the bulletin out to so many while Les P. put in over eleven years as the address keeper, but now it's your turn at the helm. If no one comes forward to act as Bulletin Editor and Address Keeper, then we lose the bulletin. It's as simple as that. I know that this is a passionate matter to some, so jump in and do the job. It could be a group effort like the website, but without an edotor the bulletin will cease to exist. Volunteering your time on behalf of the PFF is very rewarding—and I speak from experience!

The speaker for the June meeting is our good friend Rich Lobrovich, who has created a presentation on a year in the life of a fly fisher. To spice things up a bit, we'll have this last speaker dinner at the Chevy's in RWC on El Camino at 6PM. Call or email me in advance so I can reserve enough seats and order enough pitchers of margaritas. See you there!
