Just Showing Up

PFF president Rich Catanzaro

The other day several of the past presidents and I were discussing the club's activities. During the course of that conversation it came to me that some members might not fully comprehend the importance of attending the meetings.

In addition to receiving committee news and updates, almost every fishout has its first sign-up at the meeting after a brief description of the who, what, where and equipment needed. A great deal of this information may or may not always be in the web news.

Recently a couple of great fish outs were announced at the meeting which will probably be filled before the news of these fishouts is broadcast. For example: Sept 18 will be an on stream workshop with Ron Hart on the upper Sacramento River. This will prove to a tremendous opportunity to learn nymphing methods, reading the water, and perhaps an introduction to new fishing territory for some. The fishout is limited to 10 anglers and will start at 9:00 AM, Sept 18.

George Conway has another great opportunity to fish Sugar Creek Ranch Oct 8, 9 & 10 including a guide to answer your questions and to provide insights into some of the secrets of the lakes and how to catch trophy trout. Limited number of anglers can participate due to the lodging facilities.

Then there are the speakers. Each President of the club has attempted to bring the best possible speakers that their budget will allow, to provide insight and locations that may be of interest to the members. There are surprises and then there are some real SURPRISES. But one thing remains constant, you need to attend the meetings to be part of the great programs, and we never know when that will be, other than the third Thursday of each month.

The same thing goes for the raffle. It is a real part of the club and provides members the opportunity to gain prizes and great prizes. Ask George Conway. After being raffle chair for the past several years he was not able to enter the raffle. This last meeting he walked away with a new Ross reel.

I'm certain that if you set down and think about these items you'll be able to add a few more of your own reasons for attending. ATTEND THE MEETINGS. We're all looking to welcome you there.

The September meetings speaker will be Dave Finkle of Cal Trout. He will give us some places and information on Golden Trout. Meeting at the lodge at approximately 6:00 pm when we'll then head to Chevy's for a quick bite and some conversation in an informal setting. The formal meeting begins as usual at 7:30 pm.
