Gone a-Fishing

PFF president George Conway

" I have laid aside business and gone a-fishing"
– Izaak Walton

How many times in our cubicles and workplaces have we thought of taking that advice and leaving for a few days of fishing? Taking some of our valuable time and spending it on us. I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found. I love the solitude. I love the water playing around my waders. What am I doing at this computer writing this message to all of you? I should be fishing!

Hi! My name is George Conway. I'm the guy that ran the raffle for the last four years. Now you have elected my president. I thank you for that (I think?). This year my goal is to include each and every PFFer in the basic operation of the club. I don't expect you to lead a fishout, although that would be great. I do encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities that the club offers: fishouts, speakers, raffles, auctions, and best of all, the dinners. Why are the dinners so important? For one, they bring together the PFF families to renew old friendships and make new ones. For another, the food is good.

What else can member do? Please attend the monthly meetings. They are the line that holds us together. One of the most important times at the meetings is that period before the meeting starts. That is when we mill around and greet each other. But, we should also be looking for those lost souls that are new members or guests. They probably know very little about PFF, but would be grateful for your experience and help.

Another important perk of the club is casting. Casting is vitally important to you getting more fish. When was the last time you went to Saturday casting clinic? The information and assistance you get there is the best!

If you are interested in doing more for the PFF, just contact one of the board of directors. The board gives so much to the club. I am very fortunate to have an excellent board this year:

1st VP Rodney Chun
2nd VP Roger Finke
Secretary Sheree Kajiwara
Treasurer Homer Eaton
Director Jim Johnston
Director Chris Rich
Director Jerry Bernaccnhi
Director Bob Schwehr
Director Rich Catanzaro
Advisory Director Mike McGuire

Peninsula Fly Fishers is a club that brings together people who enjoy the sport of fly-fishing. That is the reason we put our time and energy into the raffles, auctions, casting clinic, dinners, monthly meetings, fly-tying, rod building, library, conservation, and the good friends we have here.

July is the time for the installation dinner and raffle. Sign up with Les Junge at 650-593-4982. It's $25 per person, and well worth it!

See you there!
George Conway
