What to pack? This is big water expect (sometimes) big fish.

ROD SIZE: 5 to 9 weights 6 weight is best. I bring a 6 weight if the water is big and needs a bit more.

LINE: Depending on the water the best right now is a floating line with a sink tip. You never know. Bring a sinking line and a floating line. This is steel head fishing be prepared.

LEADER: This water is grayish and short leaders are okay 5.5lb, 4X or 6.5lb, 3X or 8lb, 2x or 10lb. The 4X is a good middle of the road. 3X work well if you’re optimistic. Use your own judgment and capabilities on this.

FLIES: It is going to depend on the rain and the water level as to the fishing and the flies. The stand by that you want to take is: Doug of Marble Mountain will be stocking the most popular, so bring money or fly tying material. The following are the standards for Steelhead: 

Wet Flies #6 to #12:

  • Crusty (can be purchased at the Trinity Fly Shop)

  • Silver Hiltons
  • Paris Hiltons caught me a 48” salmon 2 years ago

  • Brendle Bug
  • Green Butt Silver Hilton
  • Muddler
  • All of your favorites and don't forget to pack a couple of Woolly Buggers.

Dry Flies
  • Large Humpies will work:
  • Bombers
  • Grey Wolf
  • Black Wolf
  • Royal Wolf
  • Terrestrials

Be prepared for all. Rain, cold, warm, this means long johns etc.

You must have a Steelhead Card along with your license.

There will be a barbeque on Saturday Night at my cabin Bring your Item you want to BBQ. Beef, Chicken, Pork, Veggie Burger What ever And a SIDE DISH for the Pot Luck. We need Salad, vegetable desert, appetizers, etc. Please call me and let me know what you are bringing. We don’t want 13 salads.

Most of us will eat at the restaurant on Thursday night. Call Marble Mountain and let them know if you are going to eat at the restaurant, so they can have enough.The rest of the meals breakfast lunch and dinner “you are on your own”. Although we usually prepare and fix meals at the main cabin with the fish master.
