Learning to Fly Fish the Surf -- April 20, 2019

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly fish the "world’s largest stillwater", which is right in our backyard?  PFF is fortunate to have teamed up with expert surf fly fisher Mark Won, who has a deep passion for fly fishing the surf.  Mark will lead two PFF fishouts — one on a Friday and another on a weekend — on one of our local beaches and will provide hands-on instruction.

Mark will also join our April 4 PFF monthly workshop to provide an overview for fishout attendees.

Here are the specifics for this weekend fishout:

DATE AND TIME:  Saturday April 20, meet 6 am.  Fish until ~10 am.

LOCATION:

South of Manresa State Beach, Watsonville, CA (See the surf fishout details document for parking instructions and directions.  Carpooling is encouraged.)

COST: $15/person

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Minimum 3 and maximum 10 participants.  Because Mark provides hands-on instruction, we are limiting each fishout to 10 people.

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: Thursday April 11, 2019

FISHMASTER: Bill Uyeki / bill@troutseeker.com / Mobile (650) 483-0772

WHO SHOULD GO:

Any member interested in fly fishing the surf is encouraged to attend.  You should be able to fly cast full sinking lines 30-60 feet with minimal false casts.

You must be in good enough physical condition to wade into the surf up to your knees, and be able to stay on your feet during both incoming (which may raise the water level to your waist and possibly higher) and outgoing waves.  SAFETY FIRST! If you have any doubts about your ability, then this is probably not a good fit for you.  Additionally, we will likely walk up to 2 miles of the beach while Mark points out structures and potential holding areas.

MORE INFO: For details on what to wear, what gear, flies, leaders and other equipment to bring, and parking instructions and directions, please review the surf fishout details document.
