General Meeting: Pescadero Update and Essence of Tenkara Fly Fishing

  • June 20, 2019
  • 7:30 PM
  • Club House

Our June General Meeting will feature two topics:

Pescadero Creek Update

Jon Jankovitz

District Fisheries Biologist

San Mateo/Santa Cruz/San Francisco Counties

California Department of Fish and Wildlife

Eric Young

Golden Gate Trout Unlimited

Jon and Eric will provide an update on Pescadero Creek and our collective efforts for Pescadero to become part of CDFW’s Wild Heritage Trout Program.  This creek is right in our backyard on the San Mateo coast and has a thriving (albeit challenged) run of wild steelhead trout.

The Essence of Tenkara Fly Fishing

Luong Tam

Founder, Tenkara Tanuki

Luong is the founder of Tenkara Tanuki, is a rod designer and Tenkara rod maker. He was trained as design engineer by trade. Luong has been fly fishing since the 90’s but for the last few years, he became hooked on Tenkara and started his company Tenkara Tanuki. He has studied under world number one Tenkara fisher and a Japanese Tenkara master living legend, Masami Sakakibara. Combined with his fly fishing experience, Luong has developed fly fishing with Tenkara methods to make fly fishing more fun and simpler.

His presentation will cover the essence of the Tenkara system, casting and fishing techniques. Tenkara fishing focuses on fly manipulation more than on matching the hatch.
