Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly fish the "world’s largest stillwater", which is right in our backyard?  PFF is fortunate to have teamed up with expert surf fly fisher Mark Won, who has a deep passion for fly fishing the surf.

Mark has kindly offered to lead surf “mini” fishouts, which will be limited to maximum four (4) attendees.  This is so Mark can provide individualized and personalized instruction.  These are open to any current PFF member.  Our goal is allow any PFF who wants to learn to fly fish the surf to attend one of these mini fishouts, so going forward, priority will be given to members who have not yet attended a mini fishout.

We hope to host a few of these mini fishouts throughout the summer.

Mark provided an excellent, detailed presentation on fly fishing the surf during April's PFF monthly meeting.  If you missed it, you can view the video playback.

Additionally please reference Mark's excellent Fly Fishing the Bay Area Surf handout on all gear, wading apparel, and flies to bring to fly fish the surf.

DATE AND TIME:  Saturday June 18, meet at 9 AM.  Fish until ~3 to 4 pm.

LOCATION: Meet at Ocean Beach or Fort Funston, San Francisco, CA - TBD

COST: $25/person

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Minimum 2 and maximum 4 participants.

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION: End of day, Monday, June 14th

FISHMASTER: Ron Beltramo / Mobile (415) 999-8348

WHO SHOULD GO:

Any member interested in fly fishing the surf is encouraged to attend.  You should be able to fly cast full sinking lines 40-60 feet with minimal false casts.

SAFETY FIRST!

You must be in good enough physical condition to wade into the surf up to your knees, and be able to stay on your feet during both incoming (which may raise the water level to your waist and possibly higher) and outgoing waves. If you have any doubts about your ability, then this is probably not a good fit for you.  Additionally, we will likely walk up to 2 miles of the beach while Mark points out structures and potential holding areas.

MORE INFO: For details on what to wear, what gear, flies, leaders and other equipment to bring, please review the mentioned Fly Fishing the Bay Area Surf handout.
