March General Meeting: A PFF Member Perspective on Fly Fishing Argentina and Chile

  • March 17, 2022
  • 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Highlands Community Club, 1665 Fernside Str., Redwood City, CA 94061 and Zoom videoconferencing

Retired academic and PFF member Mary Ann Peters has been traveling to and fly fishing Argentina and Chile for about 20 years. For our March meeting Mary Ann will provide an in-depth perspective on her experiences fly fishing these areas, including the different regions, best times to visit, the gear and fly patterns used, and guide services and outfitters she has hired. Additionally Mary Ann will provide some perspective on traveling to these remote areas and travel tips.

Background

Mary Ann grew up in Marin County and is a fourth generation Californian. She loves backpacking, fly fishing, playing tennis, skiing and hiking. She has taught strategic marketing at the university level and started and ran a marketing consulting firm for over 35 years.

She has also sat on public and non-profit boards including the University of California School of Veterinary Medicine. Besides the above hobbies, Mary Ann's passion is raising and training golden retrievers to work in hospitals and senior facilities. Presently she is involved with UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and the Golden Retriever Foundation in researching cancer in these beautiful animals and hopefully finding the causes and developing protocols. She notes that cancer research emanating from the Vet School often is transferred to human medicine and trials, hopefully a win-win for all.

Besides South America, Mary Ann has fly fished in Europe and various parts of the US.
