Going for the Gold--PFF Backpack Fishout 2012

  • August 26, 2012
  • September 03, 2012
  • Starts and Ends at Mineral King, Sequoia National Park

Registration is closed

The PFF backpack fish out this year is set for Sunday August 26 to September 2. In Olympian fashion we will be going for the grand slam of touching all three of California’s famous golden trout in their native habitat. This is a trip of extreme highs and lows traversing up 15000 ft in elevation and down 15000 ft over 56 miles. In the rarified air of 10,000 ft, following the tail of a trout, proper conditioning, training and some experience is required for a successful wilderness experience. It will start (and end) from Mineral King in Sequoia National Park. We will go up over Farewell Gap and down to the Little Kern for the Little Kern Golden. From there up and over Coyote Pass on the Great Western Divide(GWD) down to the main Kern River to catch the second of the golden-related species, the Kern River Rainbow.  Form there we will make a day trip up Golden Trout  Creek to catch the third of the golden species. After some days on the Kern, it will be back out up Rattlesnake Creek, Lost Canyon, and Sawtooth pass over the GWD
