President's 2010 Year-end message

Dear Fellow PFF Members,
Our Club had a banner year in 2010 in many ways. Our membership increased to 135 members! We are financially healthy and looking real good for the next year thanks to our Treasurer Barbara Stevens and her guidance along with the leadership of our fine Board. Our website has been moved to a new modern structure and format with many new capabilities that we did not have access to on the old site. Thanks go out to Vice President EJ Melzer for bringing this new option to us and for the many hours he and his helpers spent on transferring all the data over. Our monthly programs were top notch as we brought in excellent speakers with interesting topics. One area we have been weak in is the use of our clubhouse on the workshop Thursdays. This year we have taken steps to correct that by creating a new forum for all members called The Round Table. This will be running at the same time as the well-established Fly Tying and Rod Building classes. The idea is to offer something that will appeal to and attract more of our members out on the first Thursday of each month to the Workshop. The Round Table will be hosted by Past Presidents Dave Peterson and Sheree Kajiwara and is expected to debut in February or March. It will feature talks about seasonal fishing such as Steelhead in January or Trout in March etc. Dave and Sheree will cover the hot areas to go, the accommodations available, the equipment needs, what tackle is recommended and what flies are suggested, among many other things.
This year’s Holiday Party left nothing to be desired. The attendance surpassed last year’s record turnout of 80 as 82 guests partook of great food, holiday cheer and the fantastic raffle put on by raffle chair Dale! Of course we can’t forget the guest auctioneer Rich who performed his magic again! JC handled the door as always and we had several great items at the members table. Special thanks go out to Debbie Lamica and her Fiance Dave who were in the kitchen helping to get the food out and were the last to leave after cleaning up! I also want to thank the many members and spouses who helped  prepare the food and those who stayed after the event to help clean up. We were through around 11:00 pm and didn’t need to come back the next morning to finish.
I want to thank one of our long time great members, John Margaroni for the years of service he gave as the Advisory Board Member. This is a 2 year position that requires a lot of knowledge and experience both in fly fishing and in the successful workings of a club. John exceeded these requirements and exemplified what being a team player is all about. Though John will be sorely missed our fine Board nominated and voted in Past President Sheree Kajiwara as the new Advisory Board Member for the years 2011-2012. We are exceedingly lucky and honored to have Sheree fill this prestigious position and look forward to working together with her to further advance the club.
I am always amazed at how much involvement we get from some of our Veteran members that have done it all before. They are an outstanding group of sportsmen and women without which the club could not operate.
Again I want to say thanks to all the members that contributed to the success of our club this past year and for the thirty odd years since it’s founding. We always are in need of assistance in many areas but at this time we especially need some help in the following areas;
  1. Conservation: We need someone to step into the position of conservation chair. There will be a lot of help for you so experience is not necessary.

  2. Two  new Board members for the year beginning 7/01/2011. Please feel free to volunteer or nominate someone for these positions. There is one extra meeting a month so it does not require a lot of time and you will have a voice in the direction your club is running. No experience needed!

  3. One member to fill the position of 2nd Vice President beginning 7/01/2011.
The only requirement is a love for fly fishing and a desire to serve.
All you need to do is contact someone on the Board or just drop me an email at .
May the Peace of the season be upon you and may all good things happen to you and yours in 2011!
