A Final Message from the President of Peninsula Fly Fishers

Dear friends,

I have enjoyed my year as your President here at the Peninsula Fly Fishing Club. Thanks to many of you we have made a great deal of progress this past year.  Here are a few of the noteworthy projects we have continued with or have taken on;

  • 1)    We helped establish a Fly Fishing and Tying Club at the Menlo Park Veterans Facility. I cannot overstate our debt to our Veterans and this project is one that we can be very proud of! Our own Homer Eaton has put in many hours working with the Vets and their club is off and running. They have had several fish outs as well. Homer needs some volunteers to occasionally help him. Please contact Homer directly if you are so moved.
  • 2)    Our Mentoring Program has continued to thrive under the capable leadership of Dave Peterson and some of his volunteers. They held several fish outs during this past year. The importance of mentoring new members cannot be overstated. This is every members charge to make new members continually feel welcomed whether by helping them with equipment, casting or fishing pointers or just seeking them out at the meetings to make them feel welcome.
  • 3)    This year we started a Round Table Education Class at the monthly workshops led by Dave Peterson with help from several members including Mike McGuire and Sheree Kajiwara. Dave or one of his helpers discuss the topics of the current season and talk about where to go, what to bring and how to fish the area. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from members about this program.
  • 4)    John Margaroni has made a lot of progress with our Youth Programs and has a number of things planned for the upcoming year. Dale Emerson started a flea market table at the regular monthly meetings to help fund our youth programs. The funds are currently held as a line item for all our youth programs.
  • 5)    Trout in the Classroom has really begun to flourish under the capable leadership of our own Les Junge as you have probably noted by his recent presentation to the club. Those who may be interested there will be a training session  in December.
  • 6)    One of the gems this past year has been the transition from our old website to the new one. This took a tremendous amount of work and who better to head up this project than EJ Melzer. I am certain that EJ had a lot of help but he was always the one that answered our questions and solved our problems regarding the website.
  • 7)    EJ also headed up the Speaker programs with help from several other members.Good job EJ!!

Other accomplishments have been to continue the increase in membership. We are now at 135 members at last count. That is a net increase of about 12%. This year we instituted a movie night and a conservation night that will be regular features in the future. We have seen our raffle income increase substantially this past year and I understand that we will have some terrific items at the Installation Raffle. Our retired long time raffle chair Richard Holibeck has agreed to help Raffle Master Dale since we will have so many items to Auction off!

Last but not least I would like to thank several people that helped make my year as President one that I can look back on with fond memories. Dale Emerson, Dave Peterson, and Sheree Kajiwara were the 3 presidents I served under before becoming president myself. They mentored andassisted me every step of the way. My Board of Directors and Cabinet Members made it a pleasure to come to the Board meetings each month. Their brainstorming and  input was vital to the successful year we had.

Again Thank You to all the members of this great club!
