Dave's BIO

Mr. David (Dave) McCants has been fly fishing Putah Creek for 40 years and has developed fly's and nymph fishing techniques for use on Putah Creek.

Dave is a founding member of Putah Creek Trout. Putah Creek Trout has successfully endeavored to make Putah Creek a catch and release stream (completed 5 years ago) with barbless single hooks only on the stream. Putah Creek Trout has also worked with the CA DFG in Putah electro-shocking and other stream studies. Putah Creek has also been designated a CA Wild Trout Steam in December of 2014. Catch rates pre and post catch-and-release status have also increased dramatically.

Dave's legacy will be his efforts to educate others on the nuances of Putah Creek fishing and let the public know what an incredible resource we have in our own back yard. Trout to 30" can be caught in Putah and fishing is year round. Dave will share with you his knowledge of the stream, its flows, fly patterns, "best times of year to fish".

With any luck you will also see Dave on the stream, as he fishes Putah every Thursday with friends, clients and those wanting to learn more about the creek.
