Hosted by PFF Board Member EJ Melzer:

In this program we will tie 8 proven competitive suggestive nymph patterns and we will tie a dozen of each. The goal is to have a fly box filled with 96 nymphs in a variety of sizes that allow you to fish anywhere by the start of the season. We will do this at the February, March and April workshops, one day/night at my home and probably one night at another place. We will tie the right way, with quality barbless hooks and high-end materials. All materials will be provided and the cost for the program is $160. This includes all the hooks, tungsten beads, threads, tails, dubbings, hotspots. This is not a program to learn fly tying, but all levels welcome. Bring your own vise and tools.

Program Start date: February 6

The selection of flies includes woven flies, slender flies, UV flies and hotspot flies, varying from size 8 to 18.

NOTE:  This is not a program to learn fly tying, but all levels welcome. Bring your own vise and tools.

Over the last 10 years the question I have been asked more than anything else when I come of the river is ‘what fly did you use?’. When people look at my tiny fly box, they are often disappointed. No magic flies, but a small selection of ‘confidence’ flies that will catch fish in any California river and allow you to focus less on the flies and more on the fishing. The world’s most successful competition fly fishers use a similar approach and you see a relatively small selection of suggestive patterns that can catch fish in almost any river they fish.

Spots: maximum of 8, sign up online after the workshop on Dec 5th.

The workshop will be held at Highlands Community Club, 1665 Fernside St, Redwood City, CA 94061.
